SCA / Fire Protection

FM-200 Fire Suppression Systems.

FM-200 is a trade name associated with HFC-227ea. We identify the actual agent and approved system before coordinating room protection, cylinders, pipework and controls. The design addresses quantity, distribution, enclosure behaviour and personnel procedures together, with the selected product’s operating and maintenance requirements documented for the client.

Agent identity and quantity

A trade name does not establish the complete technical specification. We confirm the agent and system manufacturer, then assess the protected volume and relevant temperature conditions using the approved calculation. A normal pressure-gauge reading alone does not prove the correct agent quantity remains in a cylinder. The inspection method and acceptance criteria follow the selected equipment documentation and service requirements.

Pipework and nozzle calculation

The cylinder, valve, pipe network and nozzles form a coordinated distribution system. Actual routing, fittings and elevations must match the approved calculation. A site change can affect discharge behaviour and should be reviewed before handover. Replacing the agent or cylinder with a different technology is not an automatic reuse opportunity for the existing pipework; the complete installation needs a compatibility and design assessment.

Enclosure retention and operating sequence

Fast discharge does not compensate for an enclosure that cannot retain the agent as required. Room penetrations, doors, voids and ventilation arrangements are included in the protection assessment. Detection, warnings, evacuation and any shutdown interfaces are coordinated with the operation team. Pressure effects are evaluated separately from enclosure integrity, with relevant provisions agreed for the selected system.

Agent management after installation

Maintenance, leak investigation, refill and recovery arrangements remain part of the operating responsibility after initial installation. The selected agent’s environmental and handling requirements are considered in the service plan. Following a discharge, the cause, equipment condition and suppression system must be assessed before reinstatement. We provide the installed design information and identify changes to the room or equipment that require a review.

Technical points we check

  • HFC-227ea and system identity, protected volume and design temperature conditions.
  • Documented quantity checks beyond the pressure-gauge indication.
  • Approved routing, fittings, nozzles and compatible cylinder arrangement.
  • Enclosure behaviour, warnings, service procedures and controlled reinstatement.

From site survey to handover

We begin with the protected hazard, occupancy, building layout and available infrastructure. The design documents define the selected system, equipment limits, detection and control interfaces, installation responsibilities and acceptance checks. Tests are planned with the building team so that isolations, alarms and reinstatement are controlled. We provide the agreed drawings, equipment records and operating instructions, including the changes that require the protection strategy to be reviewed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the relationship between FM-200 and HFC-227ea?

FM-200 is a trade name; HFC-227ea identifies the agent. The actual product and complete approved system must be confirmed for design and maintenance.

Is maintenance complete if the gauge looks normal?

No. A pressure indication is only one check. The required inspection and quantity-verification method follows the selected system documentation and the appropriate service process.
