A central HVAC installation connects plant, distribution, terminal units and controls into one operating system. We coordinate chillers, heat pumps, fan coils, air handling units and rooftop equipment according to the building’s demand. SCA Engineering develops project-specific solutions for offices, hotels, retail spaces, educational buildings and industrial facilities.
Select the system around the building
Building loads, operating hours, available plant space and maintenance capability guide the choice between hydronic and packaged arrangements. We assess the rooms and processes to be served, any simultaneous heating and cooling need and the outdoor-air requirement. Equipment output must be evaluated at the intended operating conditions. Nominal catalogue capacity is a starting point for selection, not a complete description of the installed system’s performance.
Chillers, heat pumps and fan coil distribution
Chillers supply cooling water to terminals or air-handling coils; suitable heat pumps may supply heating and cooling according to the selected configuration. Fan coil units provide room-level heat transfer through a water coil and fan. Pipework, pumps, control valves, balancing and condensate drainage must be coordinated. A fan coil’s room-temperature control does not replace a separate assessment of outdoor-air ventilation.
Air handling and packaged rooftop options
Air handling units can combine filtration, heating, cooling and suitable heat-recovery sections, with the arrangement selected for the project. Packaged rooftop units combine functions in a roof-mounted system and require coordinated air distribution, structural support and service access. Fresh-air or economiser options are model-specific. We evaluate the complete arrangement and control sequence rather than assuming that every unit of a given type offers the same functions.
The interface is where performance is won or lost
The central plant may be correctly selected yet struggle because of poor balancing, inaccessible filters, opposing controls or inadequate drainage. We coordinate pipe and duct routes with electrical supplies and the building automation interface. Commissioning compares the relevant air and water duties with the agreed design, and the handover identifies the settings and maintenance requirements needed for continued operation.

Technical points we check
- Building loads, room functions and the intended operating temperatures.
- Plant duty at design conditions, hydraulic and air-side pressure losses.
- Outdoor-air provision, drainage, structural support and service access.
- Integrated control sequences and documented air/water balancing.
From site survey to handover
We coordinate the heat source, terminal units, pipework, air system, electrical supplies and controls as a complete installation. The agreed scope identifies who supplies each interface and which operating conditions will be verified. Commissioning records include the relevant flow, temperature, pressure and control checks. We hand over the final layout and equipment information with clear maintenance access and operating guidance for the facilities team.
Frequently asked questions
Does a central system allow separate room control?
Suitable terminal units and controls can provide room or zone control. The available heating and cooling modes depend on the central plant and distribution configuration, which must be established during design.
How do you choose between a chiller and rooftop system?
We compare loads, zoning, outdoor-air needs, available plant and duct space, maintenance and the building’s installation constraints. The most suitable arrangement depends on the whole project rather than one equipment specification.
